These testimonials are from former students who graduated with an engineering degree and commented about their instruction.  
My name is Liliana (Bengfort) Boice, and I graduated from Colorado Technical University in the summer of 2016. 

I’m 39 years old and married with three children, but I was a single mom to two boys at the time that I got my BS in electrical engineering from CTU. After graduating with my bachelor’s degree I completed two semester-long internship tours as a NASA Pathways intern with the NASA White Sands Test Facility (WSTF) in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Some highlights of my accomplishments as an intern were designing system upgrades for the laser trap that measures particle velocity for the NASA Remote Hypervelocity Test Laboratory and designing an analog gas pressure safety valve control circuit, both of which were implemented at NASA WSTF and are being used today. After completing my tours with NASA I began working on my master’s degree in electrical engineering at New Mexico State University, and I’m scheduled to complete my MSEE with a focus in photonics at the end of 2019. It is my hope to someday work to help advance laser technologies and optical systems, whether that is through new laser technologies, communication systems, or telescopic and imaging systems.

As I look back on my internship, at my current master’s degree program, and at my future goals and ambitions, I am thankful for the solid foundation and skills that CTU helped me to build. CTU helped my career and development as an engineer by providing an emphasis on solid foundational skills and methods; projects utilizing standard real-world tools; projects that illustrated practical application of theories and coursework; free workshops to build resumes; career fairs; outstanding career and education advising; excellent professors and instructors; clubs and student organizations, such as Student Senate and IEEE; and an emphasis on real-world skills such as how to successfully present a design to potential customers. Through all of these factors I discovered my interest and passion for photonics and optics, I had a competitive education and community involvement history that opened doors for me as an applicant, I developed the skills to present my designs professionally with confidence, and I built lasting friendships with classmates and relationships with mentors.
           

 My advice to current CTU students who have high aspirations and goals would be: 1) learn to communicate frequently and professionally with instructors; 2) focus on course content and not personalities; 3) find a mentor; 4) get involved with the student body or volunteer in the wider community early in order to round out your resume; 5) use the free resume and professional workshops offered by CTU; and 6) start searching and applying for jobs early in order to get an idea of what jobs are out there and what skills and experience they’re asking for – and if cold applications don’t work then network and find opportunities, don’t expect them to find you. 

I have had some wonderful work and education experiences since graduating from and because of my time at CTU. Though many people that I encounter have never heard of CTU, when my experience and career is the subject of conversation I always speak proudly of my alma mater. I’m passionate about what I do and the potential for technology in my chosen field, and I thank CTU for helping to foster my education and passion from very early on.

I graduated with a degree in Computer Engineering from CTU in 2014.  During my time at CTU I was exposed to many different concepts, which I had never encountered before.  More than that, my professors at CTU (Dr. John Santiago, Pam Phillips, Dr. Kosek and Dr. Kasley) had a profound influence on my life and career.
Before coming to CTU I was a weather forecaster in the United States Air Force (USAF) and retired as such.  I had a bachelor’s degree in the precursor to social work and a master’s degree in Education Counseling.  I had an initial interview with Dr. Kasley and she gave me the confidence with which to start my journey.


Since graduating, I was hired at Metispace Technologies (no longer in business) as a Software Engineer.  It was an EXCELLENT introduction to the world of engineering as we worked on the Air Force Space and Missile Network (AFSCN) contract.  Because of my degree at CTU I learned to “think outside of the box.”  Dr. Santiago taught me how to really work and keep working until I understood something.  This perseverance showed me that I had the capability to do things beyond what I thought I was capable of.  I was able to find something interesting about everything I encountered.


I am currently working as a software engineer for the Department of Defense.  My ABET accredited degree with its emphasis in physics and math opened the door for this part of my career.  I would have NEVER been able to get my foot in the door without an ABET accreditation. Dr. Kosek (math) showed me how fun math was and is.  His style of teaching was both throughout and applicable to my current career.  I understand what the “rocket scientists” are talking about in my position at the Defense Contract Management Agency and am able to evaluate their processes with confidence and vi
gor that is necessary for the position.

To summarize, I appreciate my education from CTU from the people at the bookstore, to the folks who put on the career fairs (they opened my eyes to the possibilities) to Dr. Kasley’s even handedness in handling conflicts between staff and students.  I will forever appreciate the connections I’ve made and the “brain reset” I received from my experiences at CTU.

Being an engineer is one of the most challenging things I have ever done in my life, but all of the long hours studying for tests, writing lab reports, and general difficulty of the program have paid off and opened more doors than I ever could have imagined.

Not long after I graduated from Colorado Technical University (CTU), I was given the opportunity to work on Military Satellite Communications with U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command (USASMDC/ARSTRAT). The specific job I was hired for was Satellite Communications (SATCOM) terminal performance certification. This required knowledge in RF, Electromagnetics, Calculus, and Physics. 

All of these are key components in the engineering discipline that you will learn during your studies at CTU.

Now, I continue to work for USASMDC/ARSTRAT and have been assigned as the modem performance certification lead for all of Wideband SATCOM within the Department of Defense as part of the Consolidated SATCOM System Expert for Wideband.

I owe this opportunity for success to CTU, the great engineering program, and wonderful professors. On more than one occasion I was ready to quit, but many of those professors, that I now call friends, helped me through the rough patches and guided me to completion. The flexibility of the program and the willingness of everyone involved, really makes the engineering program, the absolute best program in the entire school (I am kind of biased since I completed the program).  
When I was three years old my mother saw me standing alone in the living room. After a short wait I moved forward a few feet and stopped. When she asked me what I was doing I said, ”I’m waiting in line at Disneyland.” From a young age I have had a lifelong passion for Disney theme parks and have always desired to be an Imagineer. Since 2010 my life has been intertwined with the Chinese culture and learning Mandarin. A core part of my Chinese experience has been a passion for Shanghai Disneyland and the experience being a part of the most innovative and culturally unique theme park in the world. My goal is to use technology and creativity to develop innovative experiences for Disney theme parks in Shanghai and Hong Kong.

My name is Eric KUMI Barimah, a student of Colorado Technical University, almost done with my Master's in Electrical Engineering.  Dr. John Santiago, who is a professor in electrical and systems engineer had taught me a number of courses to include:  Digital Communication, Spread Sprectrum System, Space Communication and Digital Signal Processing.  I really enjoy all these classes.   I have the most fun in his classes than any other class I have taken at Colorado Technical University.  I am so glad that Dr. John Santiago lets his personality shine through into his lectures.  He isn't just a professor who comes into class to teach you the material; he is also able to show you how to use the material in your life.  Once I could see that the material had real life applications, it was easier for me to learn it.   In fact, I found myself wanting to learn it.  I think that is rare to find a teach at Colorado Technical University who will go out of their way to help you in a bind, at least from my experiences with lecturers here.  This was perfect.  We got a lot of material in, but our brains weren't fried from it;"

My name is Michael Calabrese, a former student and current member of Colorado Technical University.  I met Professor John Santiago while pursuing a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
Among the students and faculty in the engineering department, Electromagnetics or EMAG has long been considered one of if not the most challenging course in the electrical engineering program.  Thankfully, I had the benefit of taking this course under Professor Santiago.


It was through his vast knowledge of the subject and seemingly unending enthusiasm for passing this knowledge on, that I managed to successfully complete this milestone in my program.  Professor Santiago went way beyond normal student expectations by providing animated resources to help relate the principles of EMAG.  Through his efforts and numerous examples the class was able to understand and digest the extremely challenging theory that is EMAG.


I consider myself very privileged to have sat under him for this course.  His ability to recognize and understand how difficult the subject matter was from his student perspective and then effectively modify his approach for their sake makes him an invaluable asset to any organization fortunate enough to employ him.  In my opinion this quality is very rare in most university settings and therefore set Professor Santiago and Colorado Technical University above the crowd.


Since my employment at CTU I have the added blessing of considering John a colleague and even more importantly a friend.

As an Electrical Engineering Graduate of Colorado Technical University, I had the honor of being a student of Dr. John Santiago.  Dr Santiago taught the class of Electrical magnetism otherwise known as E-Mag to the students.  This course had a reputation of being the hardest class to get through for a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering and I come to find that it lived up to its reputation.  Without the aid and mentoring from Dr. Santiago it would have been extremely difficult to complete the course with the success  I've achieved.  I'm proud to announce that I've accepted an exciting Engineering position designing water purificaiton systems for a well respected Engineering firm in my home town of Colorado.
